# Welcome to Motion

> Guides and API reference for videos and automations with Motion.

Create and edit videos through the API or your AI agent. Describe what you want, attach source material, and revise the result in the same chat.

## Get started

> **[API quickstart](https://docs.motion.so/getting-started.md)**
>
> Create your first video from a prompt, check its status, and download the result.

> **[Connect your AI agent](https://docs.motion.so/guides/mcp.md)**
>
> Connect Codex, Cursor, or another MCP client to your Motion account.

> **[Motion for Claude](https://docs.motion.so/guides/claude.md)**
>
> Add the Claude connector and create code-based motion graphics.

> **[API reference](https://docs.motion.so/reference/create-session.md)**
>
> Explore session endpoints, request fields, and response examples.

## Make your first video

Only a prompt is required. New video jobs use the `gva` engine with `standard` effort by default. [Choose an engine and effort](https://docs.motion.so/guides/engines.md) or [attach your own footage](https://docs.motion.so/guides/attachments.md) when you need more control.

Jobs use your account's [Motion credits](https://docs.motion.so/guides/credits.md). Each response includes a chat URL so you can open the result in Motion and continue editing.

## Automate future work

[Create an automation](https://docs.motion.so/guides/automations.md) to save instructions for a schedule or channel event. Manage definitions, pause future runs, read history, retry failed work, and inspect analytics through REST or MCP. Each invocation opens a new Motion chat.

## Documentation for agents

Use the [documentation index](https://docs.motion.so/llms.txt), [full documentation](https://docs.motion.so/llms-full.txt), or [OpenAPI schema](https://docs.motion.so/openapi.json) in your tools. Every page also has a Markdown version in the **Copy page** menu.
